- Cut off the root end of the bunching onions with a sharp knife. Cut off the top 1/2 inch of each stalk as the ends are thinner and more prone to wilting and rotting.

- Place the green onions in a paper or plastic bag. Fold over the top of the bag or gather the plastic bag's top and twist loosely so excess moisture can still escape the bag.
- Place the bunching onions in the vegetable crisper drawer in the refrigerator and store for up to two weeks.
- Place the green onions in a freezer or fridge set at 32 degrees as an alternative method. Wrap the onions first in a damp paper towel to keep the humidity high during storage. Store in this manner for up to four weeks.
